The Iowa Laboratory Facility in Ankeny has been designated by the U.S. Green Building Council as a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified building. Located on the Des Moines Area Community College campus, the 176,000-square-foot facility houses laboratories for the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, the Division of Criminal Investigation, the State Medical Examiner and the State Hygienic Laboratory. The Iowa Labs building's sustainability features include efficient lighting and controls, water-conserving fixtures, prairie landscaping and an integrated pest management plan. Recent energy efficiency efforts have cut energy use an additional 32 percent. A brief presentation ceremony is scheduled today at 11 a.m. at the building's main entrance.
