Ultimate Dinosaurs      3/1/2015 12:00:00 AM
515-274-6868 x222
401 W. Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway, Des Moines
Millions of years ago, the supercontinent Pangaea broke apart, and dinosaurs became passengers on these drifting land masses. The result? Dinosaurs with unusual - and sometimes bizarre - features that are different from the ones we know and love. Based on new, groundbreaking research from scientists around the world, Ultimate Dinosaurs reveals a new breed of dinosaurs that evolved in isolation in South America, Africa and Madagascar. From the tiny Buitreraptor to the massive Giganotosaurus (T. rex's bigger, badder cousin), Ultimate Dinosaurs is a fascinating study of species you may not have met before. See Ultimate Dinosaurs October 12, 2014, through April 12, 2015, at SCI!

Iowa Blues Challenge Winners featured at Colon Cancer Fundraiser Bottoms Up Blues Bash in March Des Moines, Iowa – January 19, 2015 - The Bottoms Up Blues Bash on March 7th, 2015, features The Candymakers, The Heath Alan Band ft Matt Woods & Justin Appel, and Dylan Boyle. The 6pm event at Wooly's in the East Village is a collaboration of The Central Iowa Blues Society and Colon Cancer Foundation of Iowa. This family friendly event is a celebration of colon cancer awareness month and fund raiser to help fight the disease in communities across the state. There will be a special Blues in the Schools (BITS) presentation for the kids presented by “Freight Train” Frank Strong and Hoover High School students. The Central Iowa Blues Society in partnership with the Colon Cancer Foundation serves a dual purpose, supporting local Blues musicians with an important fundraising cause in the community. The music line-up features the 2010 Iowa Blues Challenge – duo winner Dylan Boyle, the 2011 band category winners The Candymakers and the 2012 & 2013 band category winner (member of The Painkillers & The Rock Island Rollers) Heath Alan featuring the 2007 band winner (Matt Woods & The Thunderbolts) & 2012 solo winner Matt Woods. "Blue is the color representing colon cancer awareness," says David McCluskey, colon cancer survivor and founder of Colon Cancer Foundation of Iowa, a local nonprofit fighting colon cancer. "We’re celebrating with soulful blues music, music that comes from the heart, to raise awareness and funds to fight colon cancer in Iowa communities." 1,700 Iowans are diagnosed with colon cancer each year. While it’s the fourth most frequently diagnosed cancer in Iowa, it is the second leading cancer killer in the state, and the most preventable. Colon cancer is 90 percent preventable with proper screening. During David McCluskey's cancer battle in 2007 he was inspired by the strength and positive spirit of colon cancer patient David Kinman, who survived two years beyond his diagnosis, but died at age 37. Thus, Davids Fight reflects the disease's impact on both men. McCluskey is the organizer of central Iowa’s annual Get You Rear in Gear run/walk, set for August 23rd this year.
