A crowd-pleaser now in its 11th year, HOLLYWOOD HALLOWEEN offers a chance to don a once-in-a-lifetime costume (if you wish), toast Halloween and support the Des Moines Community Playhouse. The Playhouse has a 95-year history of enriching our community through exciting live theatre, education programs for students from pre-school through adult, avocational theatre opportunities, and life-changing experiences onstage and off.
Proceeds from HOLLYWOOD HALLOWEEN support Kate Goldman Children’s Theatre and education programs at the Des Moines Community Playhouse. Playhouse productions are often the first time children are exposed to the honesty, diversity and richness of stories told with the immediacy and excitement of live theatre. Because of our intimate playing areas, Playhouse productions provide young people with a unique up-close and personal glimpse at the world of theatre.
The HOLLYWOOD HALLOWEEN party begins at 7:30 p.m. on October 25 at West End Architectural Salvage, 22 SW 9th Street, with the arrival of over 300 guests in some of the most entertaining, humorous and clever costumes to be seen in Greater Des Moines (past years’ included Hurricane Katrina, Edward Scissorhands and his Shrub, Joe DiMaggio and Marilyn, and the Theater Floor!). Cocktails and sumptuous appetizer stations are wrapped around great music from a fabulous live band and second floor lounge. Every year, there’s a new surprise in store! After an opportunity to bid high on a variety of auction treasures, guests celebrate the evening by dancing under the harvest moon. Best of all, however, is the sport of guessing which of Des Moines’ drama divas lurks under those wild costumes!
