Athene USA's name may be new in Greater Des Moines, but the annuity company is continuing a long-standing tradition of its predecessor companies by providing a new, properly fitting coat and pair of boots to more than 700 students at two Des Moines schools. For the 20th consecutive year, employees of the company, formerly Aviva USA, will distribute properly fitted new coats and boots to children at Cattell and McKinley elementary schools, which serve some of Des Moines' neediest families. Children at both schools had the opportunity to try on coats and boots a few weeks ago to ensure they receive the right sizes. Local partners JCPenney Co. and Shoe Carnival provided the coats and boots to Athene at a discount. More than 100 Athene employee volunteers assisted with the project.
