The Des Moines Register's print circulation continued drop by double-digit percentages, according the newspaper's latest circulation report.

Sunday paid circulation fell by about 20,000 subscribers or 10.5 percent, from September to March 31, and daily circulation declined 6.6 percent, according to the Alliance for Audited Media. The
Civic Skinny column in CityView, generally understood to be written by former Des Moines Register editor Michael Gartner, characterized the decline as dramatically larger than national averages for newspapers.

The Register did gain nearly triple the number of people paying to read its website, tablet and smartphone platforms. However, those numbers still are small - 3,840 for Sunday and 5,042 for daily - compared with the Sunday paid print circulation of 166,291.
