Salvation Army honors two at annual dinner meeting

Erin Bemis (center) was the recipient of the Begie Hefner Volunteer Award at Thursday evening's Salvation Army annual dinner meeting in Des Moines. Erin has devoted countless hours of time and expertise to The Salvation Army as the volunteer director of our Red Kettle 5K Run. The award was presented to Erin by Begie Hefner (right) and Major David Corliss.
The Salvation Army in Des Moines presented two awards at their Nov. 14 annual dinner meeting. Erin Bemis received the Begie Hefner Volunteer Award at the Thursday evening event held in Des Moines. Bemis serves as the volunteer director of the Red Kettle 5K Run. She also was named to the Business Record's 2013 Forty Under 40 class. Jim Pender received the Rev. Duane Gibson Matthew 25:40 Award for organizing and implementing the Salvation Army's homeless feeding program in Des Moines. Pender also was the organization's family services director approximately 25 years ago. Today, the program serves nearly 1,000 breakfasts to homeless and near homeless men, women and children each Tuesday and Friday morning.
