You can sing, you can strum, but can you open the show?

Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield and Iowa Public Radio's Studio One network have announced the three Iowa bands that will compete for a chance to win an opening spot at the 2012 80/35 music festival. The bands will play a 40-minute set that will be broadcast live over Studio One from the Gas Lamp, 1501 Grand Ave. The band that receives the highest rating from the live audience and listeners who go to iowapublicradio.org will perform on the Wellmark Mainstage on July 7. The bands are Holy White Hounds, Love Songs for Lonely Monsters and Seedlings. Tickets to the live show are $5, with proceeds going to the Des Moines Music Coalition.
