Please join me in welcoming Megan VerHelst as the newest staff writer at the Business Record. She will be helping lead the production of our Daily e-newsletters and will cover two primary beats: culture and retailing.

Megan, a graduate of the University of Iowa's journalism school, joins us after a two-year stint as the local editor for AOL Inc.'s Ankeny Patch hyperlocal news website and as field editor for Patch.com's Central Iowa operations. She was also an editor for the Britt News Tribune, a reporter for the Jackson County Chronicle in Black River Falls, Wis., and interned for the Cedar Rapids Gazette in Iowa City.

Megan grew up in Mason City and attended Nora Springs-Rock Falls High School. She currently lives in Ankeny with her husband, Ben, and is a stepmother to two little girls, ages 8 and 6. Together the couple have a dog, Libby, and in her free time, Megan enjoys writing fiction and searching for new music to listen to.
