Marco Holter, general manager of the Red Lobster in West Des Moines, has received Darden Restaurants’ top honor: the Joe R. Lee Diamond Club Award. The award is presented annually to general managers throughout North America who demonstrate outstanding leadership by living Red Lobster’s core values of respect, integrity, genuine caring, hospitality and teamwork while also achieving top financial performance in the company’s previous fiscal year.
Independent community bankers from across Iowa were recognized during Community Bankers of Iowa’s (CBI) awards ceremony during its 42nd Management Conference and Annual Convention in Okoboji, July 17-19. Each year, one community banker is recognized by others in the profession for his or her performance and achievements in banking as the Up and Coming Community Banker of the Year. Kevin Tiernan from Bankers Trust Co. in Des Moines was announced as the 2013 recipient. The Robert D. Dixon Founders Award, established in 2003, is the most anticipated and highly regarded honor of the ceremony. Dale Torpey, chairman of the board of Federation Bank in Washington, Iowa, was announced as the 2013 recipient.
2013 has been a landmark year for real estate experts Bill Knapp III and Jon Sieck. After launching Ironwood Homes in 2008, the business partners have gone on to build more than 40 homes ranging in price from $300,000 to $1 million-plus. Despite a rapidly growing company, the two entrepreneurs decided to participate in the annual HomeShowExpo for the first time this year. Their hard work and strict attention to detail paid off. Ironwood’s entry received five awards, including the coveted “People’s Choice Award.” The home also won first place for curb appeal, first place for landscaping, second place for kitchen and second place for a kid’s bedroom.
The Alliance for Regional Stewardship (ARS), an affiliate organization of the American Chamber of Commerce Executives (ACCE), presented the Greater Des Moines Partnership with its 2013 Organizational Champion Award for the Partnership’s work on behalf of “Capital Crossroads: A Vision for Greater Des Moines and Central Iowa.” The ARS recognizes one organization or region each year committed to building a strong and vibrant community based on the four principles of regional stewardship: an innovative economy, livable communities, social inclusion and a collaborative style of governance.
