Gov. Terry Branstad today announced that Iowa has become the third state to join Get Skills to Work, a program that helps veterans get job-specific training or transition their military experience into careers in manufacturing.

Get Skills to Work was founded in October 2012 by The Manufacturing Institute in partnership with General Electric, Alcoa, Boeing and Lockheed Martin, and now has more than 500 manufacturing partners. The initiative's goal is to reach 100,000 veterans by 2015.

"We are excited to expand our Get Skills to Work program with Iowa's statewide launch of the coalition," said institute President Jennifer McNelly. "This program will help local manufacturers connect with skilled veterans ready to enter the civilian workforce."
