Iowa State University President Steven Leath — who has struggled to shake off a controversy over his use of university planes, despite strong growth at the school and other successes — reportedly is on the short list of candidates to lead Auburn University. The Auburn trustees are expected to name a president today, and the Opelika-Auburn News said Leath's land-grant and agricultural background would make him a strong candidate at the Alabama school, several unnamed sources told the newspaper. In a lengthy interview with the Business Record last year, Leath was asked if he would be in Iowa in five years. He said he hoped to stay, and had made plans to retire here, but that the negative press over his use of university planes had taken the fun out of the job. Read the Q and A at BusinessRecord.com.
