Will Obamacare choke off hiring in the fragile U.S. job market?
CNNMoney: Critics claim the Affordable Care Act -- a.k.a. Obamacare -- will cost the economy jobs. But economists' views are mixed on the issue. Nine out of 14 economists polled by CNNMoney said businesses are putting off hiring in light of health care reform, which stipulates that employers with 50 or more workers provide affordable health insurance starting in 2015.
Apple overtakes Coca-Cola as world's most valuable brand
Bloomberg: Apple Inc. has unseated Coca-Cola Co. as the world's No. 1 brand, according to an annual study of the Top 100 brands by Interbrand Corp. Apple's brand value jumped 28 percent to $98.3 billion and Google Inc. rose in second place at $93.3 billion. The Coca-Cola name slipped from the top spot after 13 years to third place at $79.2 billion.
Wall Street banks likely stung again by bad bond-trading quarter
Reuters: Wall Street banks have had another rough quarter in bond trading thanks to the U.S. Federal Reserve, and it might get worse before it gets better. Analysts have begun cutting third-quarter profit estimates for banks including Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and Morgan Stanley, citing an industry-wide fixed-income trading revenue decline of 20 to 30 percent compared with a year ago.
