Business is better but not booming for architects in Iowa and the Midwest, judging by a report today that designers experienced an uptick in activity last month. "However, firms in Iowa are seeing a wide mix of business conditions, making it difficult to declare that the sector has entered an expansion phase," Jessica Reinert, executive director of the Iowa chapter of the American Institute of Architects, said in a news release. The group said its July score was 52.7, up from 51.6 in June. The Midwest reading was 50.8. Any score above 50 indicates an increase in billings. The new projects inquiry index was 66.7, up from 62.6 the previous month.
