United Way of Central Iowa's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites are open for the season. VITA offers free tax preparation services for Central Iowans who earned $50,000 or less in 2012.

The eight Central Iowa sites are staffed by 220 IRS-trained and -certified volunteers. United Way hopes to complete more than 4,000 returns by the April filing deadlines.
