Derek Lord has been named Ankeny’s new economic development director, city officials announced Monday. He has worked in state government as community investments team leader for the Iowa Economic Development Authority since 2011. In that position, he managed a staff of seven and oversaw the state’s community investment and small business development funds. Prior to that, he served as economic development director for the city of Green Bay, Wis. Lord has a bachelor’s degree in business management from Simpson College and a master’s degree in urban and regional planning from the University of Iowa.  He replaces Curtis Brown, who left that position to become Urbandale’s economic development director in April. Lord begins his duties Aug. 26 at an annual salary of $109,762.
