The Des Moines City Council today will discuss the first phase of the Walnut Street revitalization, now estimated to cost $4.78 million, The Des Moines Register reported. Phase One of the revitalization effort, slated to begin in 2014, would focus on Fifth through Eighth streets. Improvements would be financed through a 50-50 split between property owners and the city. Also on the council agenda is the discussion of a 100-room hotel by Marriott's AC Hotel brand and a 36-unit apartment complex, both of which could be coming to the East Village.
