Manpower: Area employment to dip early in 2014

Des Moines-West Des Moines Metropolitan Statistical Area employers expect to hire at a moderate pace during the first quarter of 2014, according to the Manpower Employment Outlook Survey released today. From January to March, 17 percent of companies interviewed in the Des Moines area plan to hire more employees, while 11 percent expect to reduce staff, a net employment outlook of 6 percent. That's down from the outlook of 10 percent in the fourth quarter of 2013 and 8 percent the same period a year ago. Statewide, the net employment outlook is 8 percent, down from 11 percent in the fourth quarter of 2013 and even with the 8 percent of the same period a year ago.
