Prairie Meadows Racetrack and
Casino on Tuesday announced it has given an annual profit-sharing allotment of
$4,322,109 to the city of Des Moines, based on its agreement with Polk County
and the city. Past annual allotments of Prairie Meadows funds have been used to
improve the city's streets and bridges, City Manager Rick Clark said in a
release. "As a result, our streets and bridges are in far better condition
than would otherwise be possible," he said. "We are very, very
appreciative of this support from Prairie Meadows, particularly during these
challenging times." The Altoona casino has given more than $1 billion
through taxes, grants and charitable donations to the state of Iowa.
