Report: Iowa ranks poorly in growth of women-owned firms  
Iowa is not keeping up with national growth when it comes to the number of women-owned businesses, according to the American Express OPEN State of Women-Owned Businesses Report. Iowa has 69,400 women-owned firms, a 20.6 percent increase from 1997 that ranks 50th among the 50 states and Washington, D.C. in growth percentage. Total sales by women-owned firms in Iowa is an estimated $7.8 million, down 3.5 percent from 1997 and ranking 51st in growth percentage.
