The state unemployment rate increased to 4.4 percent in February from 4.3 percent in January, Iowa Workforce Development announced today. The unemployment rate is down from 4.9 percent a year ago, and remains significantly lower than the U.S. unemployment rate of 6.7 percent. The total number of working Iowans was up to 1,610,100 in February from 1,606,200 in January. That's 23,900 higher than a year ago and the highest on record since June 2008.
