The 24/7 Wall St. website for equity investors, compiled its annual list of the best- and worst-run states, and Iowa came up in the top five.
Debt per capital: $1,690
Budget deficit: 20.3%
Median household income: $49,427
Residents living in poverty: 12.8%
State GDP rose by 1.9% between 2010 and 2011 — the 12th-highest increase in the country. The farm economy, with rising farm earnings and skyrocketing land values, contributed significantly.
The state currently has the best possible credit ratings both from Moody’s and S&P, the website said.
