Des Moines-based MidAmerican Energy Holdings Co. has been renamed Berkshire Hathaway Energy, the company announced this morning. "Our new name reflects the benefits we gain from Berkshire Hathaway's ownership, particularly our ability to reinvest in our businesses and take a long-term view of our customers' needs, which have helped us become a leader in the global energy industry," said Greg Abel, chairman, president and CEO of the holding company. "Our vision remains unchanged - to be the best energy company in serving our customers, while delivering sustainable energy solutions." The company's locally managed utility company, MidAmerican Energy Co., will continue to operate under its current name, and there will be no changes to the operating company or the customers it serves as a result of the holding company's new name, officials said.
