What are your goals in your role at your company?
One of my primary goals at Drake is to create opportunities for people to connect with one another and to support the environment that makes Drake a great place to work. Through internal communications, I work to encourage transparency throughout the university and build engagement and enthusiasm among employees.
What are your goals for your community involvement?
My biggest focus right now is on my work with the national Habitat Young Professionals Advisory Council. My goal as communications chair is to rebuild our communications processes and engage and support our chapters in the incredible work they do to support affordable housing across the country.
What’s your biggest passion, and why?
Habitat for Humanity and Habitat Young Professionals, and their work to support affordable housing in Des Moines, have been my passion for six years. Knowing that parents are building better lives for their children because they have the stability of owning a home that I helped build is pretty amazing.
What is it that drives you?
Since high school, I’ve kept a quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson in my back pocket: “To know even one life has breathed easier, that is to have succeeded.” Helping others, easing someone’s burden — that’s what motivates me the most.
What are your future aspirations?
I would love to get back to my writing roots in some way — write a novel or freelance for a magazine. Years down the road, I envision working for myself, perhaps as a communications consultant for businesses and causes I’m passionate about. I would also like to learn another language.
