The Des Moines "I Have a Dream" Foundation announced today that it has received a $225,000 challenge gift from an anonymous donor.
The pledge will go toward the foundation's 2018 King Project, which provides a class of at-risk Des Moines public school students with academic support and college tuition assistance.
The donation is a dollar-for-dollar match to any new or increased gifts or pledges specified for the project.
The 2018 project was launched in 2006 by promising all first-graders then enrolled at Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School that if they graduate from high school, the foundation would help pay for college.
