Private-sector workers who are entitled to overtime pay could choose compensatory time off instead under legislation passed by the U.S. House of Representatives yesterday, BizJournals.com reported.

Under the Working Families Flexibility Act of 2013, workers who want to receive overtime pay could still get it instead of comp time. Workers who opt for comp time could use it when they choose, as long as they give employers reasonable notice and it doesn't disrupt business operations.

The comp time option is already available to government employees.
