A technology laboratory at the
Evelyn K. Davis Center for Working Families will be named the Prairie Meadows
Racetrack and Casino Inc. Technology Lab, following a $100,000 Prairie Meadows
Legacy Grant award. An unveiling ceremony was held this morning at the center,
at 801 University Ave. Equipped with 28 computers and Web-based software, the
technology lab serves 135 to 150 students per week with career planning,
digital literacy and financial literacy tools. Starting in February, a GED
fast-track leading to a career pathway will be offered at the center. The
center, which opened in July 2012, is based on the vision of Davis, the late
Des Moines civil rights and community leader.
