The Iowa chapter of The ALS Association was awarded $10,000 for its Communication and Assistive Device Program from the Prairie Meadows Community Betterment Committee. The grant will allow the chapter to help patients with ALS, or Lou Gehrig's disease, to better communicate with family members and caregivers. The increased funding for the Communication and Assistive Device Program will be used to provide more access to speech pathologists and to purchase specialized assistive communication devices, including equipment for using the telephone or a computer.
