The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced Wednesday the opening of a second round of Health Care Innovation Award funding through the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
Nearly $1 billion in grant funding is available through the program, which last year awarded 107 grants to health care organizations across the country. In 2012, the University of Iowa received a $7.66 million Health Care Innovation Award for an initiative to improve coordination of care at 11 critical access hospitals in 10 rural counties in Iowa.
CMS estimates three-year savings of the U of I program at $12.5 million in lower health care costs. For a summary of the Health Care Innovation Award program, click here.
