A pending acquisition by United Technologies boosted the price of Cedar Rapids-based Rockwell Collins stock 23 percent, or $24.52 a share, last month to lead the gainers on the Iowa Index, an unweighted average price of 23 Iowa-based public companies.

On a year-to-year comparison, Rockwell Collins stock gained nearly 57 percent at the end of August, rising $47.36 a share. The manufacturer of avionics and information technology systems was joined at the top of the list by Davenport-based Lee Enterprises, which added 25 cents to its stock price, an increase of 13.5 percent from July.

Since August 2016, Lee Enterprises stock has dropped nearly 25 percent and NewLink is down 20 percent.

Overall, the Iowa Index dropped 0.62 percent in August, or 23 cents a share, with nine of the 23 companies tracked on the index showing gains for the month. For the year, the index has gained 7.9 percent, or $2.76 a share.
