The Ankeny City Council has chosen David Jones, currently county administrator of Polk County, as the suburb's new city manager. During his tenure with Polk County, Jones facilitated a restructuring that enabled the county to eliminate more than 60 positions without layoffs to generate more than $4 million in annual cost savings. He also implemented a more strategic budgeting process that evaluates historical costs, service delivery and the board of supervisors' strategic priorities. Jones, who lives with his family in Ankeny, will manage a city staff of 200 full-time employees and a $100 million budget for all operations. He replaces Jim Spradling, who has been interim city manager since May 2012 and plans to retire at the end of this year.
