Iowans oppose raising the state's
gasoline tax by nearly a 2-to-1 margin, according to The Des Moines Register's
Iowa Poll. The survey asked about a pending legislative proposal to seek a
10-cent-per-gallon increase in the state's motor fuel tax to repair Iowa's
system of roads and bridges, The
Des Moines Register reported.Sixty-three percent of poll respondents
were opposed, 35 percent were in favor and 2 percent were not sure. Other
proposals to raise the tax have languished in recent sessions of the
Legislature amid a lack of support. In February 2012, an Iowa Poll showed that
68 percent of Iowans were against such an increase, as compared with 70 percent
in February 2011.
