The U.S. Department of Labor has sued the owner of a foundry in Fairfield, Iowa, claiming that he and associates illegally took $4.9 million from the company's pension plan, the Omaha World Herald reported. The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Lexington, Ky., claims that George Hofmeister of Paris, Ky., and his business associates used money from the pension plan for workers at Fairfield Castings for loans to other companies controlled by Hofmeister.
