DuPont Co. today announced third quarter operating earnings of 45 cents per share, up from 43 cents per share in the prior year. Net sales increased by 5 percent to $7.7 billion for the quarter, with sales volume up 9 percent versus a weak prior year, the company said in a release. Excluding Performance Chemicals, all of DuPont's operating segments posted increased operating earnings over last year. Agriculture sales increased 15 percent, driven by increased insecticide volumes and higher seed prices in Latin America, the company said. "While we expect overall sequential growth in industrial market demand will remain subdued, fourth quarter operating earnings will be up substantially from last year," DuPont Chair and CEO Ellen Kullman said. The company continues to expect full-year operating earnings of about $3.85 per share.
