The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago's Midwest Manufacturing Index increased 0.4 percent in October, to a seasonally adjusted level of 97.4. Revised data show the index was up 0.3 percent in September. The Federal Reserve Board's national industrial production index for manufacturing moved up 0.3 percent in October. Regional output rose 5.7 percent in October from a year earlier, and national output increased 3.6 percent. The index was driven by a 2.2 percent increase in steel production and smaller gains in auto production. Machinery production dropped 0.4 percent.
