EMC Insurance Group Inc. announced today that Kevin Hovick, executive vice president and chief operating officer, will retire on Jan. 2. Hovick's insurance career spans more than 38 years in the property/casualty business with EMC. As chief operating officer since 2011, Hovick oversees 21 profit centers, including 16 EMC branch offices. "It's been a privilege to work with the many talented EMC team members and dedicated independent agents over the years," Hovick said in a statement. "I'm pleased to have been a part of the company's development and growth from $170 million in net written premium in 1979 when I started with the company to over $1.7 billion at year-end 2016." As part of the company's ongoing leadership development and succession planning, EMC plans to name a new COO at an appropriate time, CEO Bruce Kelley said.
