Small business employment in Iowa decreased 0.03 percent in June, according to the Intuit June Small Business Employment Index.

 

Nationally, small businesses, defined as those with fewer than 20 employees, created 25,000 jobs, which was a 0.12 percent overall increase.

 

The data is based on about 196,000 small business customers that use Intuit Online Payroll and QuickBooks Online Payroll programs.

 

Small business revenues are starting to reach levels seen before the recession began in 2007, the company said in a press release. The national index is at 94.98, with 100 being the level in January 2007.

 

The index's low point was 93.19 in March 2010. For the year, the index has gone up 0.7 percent.

 

Intuit's national revenue index went down 0.4 percent from May, and is down 1.9 percent for the year.

A separate report from the National Federation of Independent Business today said that small employers reported a loss of 0.09 workers per firm in June.
