The Central Iowa chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners has announced recipients of its 2013 awards.
- Monica Dolezal, owner of the small business consulting company BIZSTARTS LLC, will receive the Women Business Owner of the Year award. Dolezal teaches in Des Moines Area Community College's entrepreneurship program and has been the sole instructor for the U.S. Small Business Administration's e200 classes in Central Iowa.
- Ini Augustine of SocialWise Media Group Inc. in Des Moines is the recipient of the Aspiring Woman Business Owner of the Year award. She will receive chapter membership and mentoring for her year-old company, which provides social media marketing and training services for small businesses and nonprofit organizations in Central Iowa. Her entrepreneurial story includes the failure of her first business, which she started at age 23, and her commitment to helping others use social media.
- KHI Financial Solutions will receive the Corporate Partner of the Year award. The Fort Dodge-based firm offers a variety of insurance services and specializes in health insurance products. Company co-owner Lynn Schreder is serving her second year as co-president of the chapter and has chaired its Women Mean Business Summit for three years.
- Terry Hernandez, who has served for 12 years as the executive director of the Chrysalis Foundation, will receive the Connie Wimer Spirit award. Hernandez works to change systems and policies that limit the potential of women and girls. In 2012 she authored the report "SHE MATTERS: Status of Women and Girls in Iowa" on the disparities and challenges faced by women and girls.
The awards will be presented during the chapter's legislative breakfast from 8:30 to 10 a.m. April 18 at the Iowa State Capitol. Register online here.
