A Des Moines flower shop will soon feature an upscale conservatory and events space as part of its offerings under new ownership. Doherty’s Floral Studio, formerly Doherty’s Flower Shop, has been purchased by Stephen Lamar Haider, a floral designer and entrepreneur. The previous owner, Robyn Sloan, is retiring. The shop at 1536 Second Ave. will offer premium, luxury fresh-cut floral arrangements as well as exotic plants from all over the world. An event space will also be available for private parties, classes and use as a learning center for kids and teens."It's so important that I use this chance to give back to the community," Haider said. "Doherty's Flowers is a beloved local business, and I can't wait to build on that already stellar reputation.” The shop will be closed Sept. 1-4 for the transition and will reopen Sept. 5.
