This May, the Home Builders Association of Greater Des Moines (HBA) Remodelers Council remodeled the home of a Des Moines woman to make it handicap accessible.
The group's special projects and community service committee installed three wheelchair-accessible doors and a vertical chair lift in Janet Kauzlarich's home.
Kauzlarich is a longtime employee of Gilcrest/Jewett Lumber Co. in Des Moines and a member of the HBA, who was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The $30,000 project allows Kauzlarich to have access to all levels of her home.
