The U.S. Small Business Administration backed $3.3 million in private loans made to 14 businesses in Central Iowa in February.

The businesses promised to create a combined 43 jobs and to retain 52. The Central Iowa data included Polk, Story, Boone, Dallas, Madison, Warren, Marion, Jasper and Marshall.

The amount of the loans backed was up 42.5 percent from January.

Among the bigger private loans in February was $657,300 to S & K Associates of Ankeny, listed in the insurance agency and brokerage section, which intended to create one job. CMS Inc. of Urbandale, a marketing firm, took out a $585,000 loan and planned to create 10 jobs.

Statewide, SBA backed 38 loans for $10.4 million in February, for 16 new and 22 existing businesses that planned to create 91 new jobs and retaining 163 jobs. That followed a January set of 30 loans totaling $6.9 million.
