Could Target Corp.'s massive data breach have been prevented? Possibly, according to this Bloomberg Businessweek story.

A company team of security experts alerted company officials about a possible data breach on Nov. 30.

The security specialists were monitoring alerts from Bangalore, India, through a malware detection tool made by FireEye Inc. They notified officials in Minneapolis, who didn't respond.

About 40 million people had credit card numbers stolen, and 70 million had addresses, phone numbers and other personal information stolen.
