StartupCity Des Moines co-founders Christian Renaud and Tej Dhawan offered what they called a "sober reflection of the entrepreneurial climate in Iowa" with a blog post Wednesday that said the coming year might be the final year for the tech business incubator. The post noted that in the second year of StartupCity's three-year funding contract the economy improved and applications to the incubator dropped. The incubator "lost or let go a number of startups" and narrowed its mentor pool to active participants. The final year of funding, which ends on Sept. 30, 2014, will bring either a change in direction for the incubator or a closure. It wasn't all bad news; the blog pointed out that other entrepreneurial ventures have come together, such as thePlains Angels investment group and the I/OWA Conference.
