    The Des Moines Airport Authority has hired Iowa business leader David Fisher as a consultant to help plan strategies to raise approximately $200 million to complete financing for a $420 million project that would include a $312 million terminal and parking garage and other improvements to reconfigure airport operations for better security and efficiency.

    The Guard’s 172-acre base, leased from the airport since 1941, is the source of some spirited discussions. Airport officials would like to reclaim some of that land for redevelopment, perhaps hangars for corporate aircraft. That would mean more revenue at a time when the airport faces a $202 million shortfall in funding for its proposed new terminal on the south side of the airport complex.
