Des Moines Area Community College this week dedicated a driving simulator financed by a $100,000 donation from the Ruan Foundation. The new technology is located at the DMACC Transportation Institute, 2081 N.E. 54th Ave. in Des Moines. DMACC President Rob Denson, an experienced truck driver, said the simulator provides students a realistic idea of life on the road, and has the advantage of avoiding accidents that might have occurred on roads during training.
Earlier this year, the Goldstein Family Foundation and Alter Trading Corp. donated a combined $60,000 that went toward purchasing the first driving simulator and DMACC Transportation Institute scholarships.
