Heartland Express Inc. announced second-quarter net income of $26.5 million, or 30 cents per share, up 3.9 percent from $19.1 million, or 23 cents per share, in 2013's second quarter. Operating revenues for the second quarter were $226.8 million, up from $134 million in the same quarter a year ago. Operating revenue increased primarily due to increased miles associated with Heartland's acquisition of Gordon Trucking Inc., which the company closed in November. For the six-month period ended June 30, the company had a net income of $40.6 million, or 46 cents per share, up from $38.9 million, also 46 cents per share, in the first half of 2013.
