Southwest Airlines Co. today
announced a new daily nonstop route between Des Moines and Las Vegas. The
service is scheduled to begin on Sept. 29, when flights are scheduled to leave
Des Moines at 11:55 a.m. and arrive in Las Vegas at 1:05 p.m., and scheduled to
leave Las Vegas at 12:25 p.m. and arrive in Des Moines at 5:20 p.m. Don
Smithey, executive director of Des Moines International Airport, said the
connection is positive for Des Moines because Las Vegas connects passengers to
17 other cities, including Seattle, Portland and Los Angeles. It's also an
encouraging sign for the Des Moines market, he said, as the airport continues
to work with Southwest to add future destinations.
