Downtown Doggy Daycare to debut BY BUSINESS RECORD STAFF
Downtown commuters who are also dog owners now have an alternative to the daily "dash for the 'burbs to let the dog out" routine.

Downtown Doggy Daycare, scheduled to open Feb. 1, will offer the first canine day-care service to be located near downtown, says owner Carrie Bonnett. The business is located at 401 S.E. Fifth St., four blocks south of Court Avenue.

"It's been something I've wanted to do for a long time," said Bonnett, a dog owner, former freelance Web designer and a longtime animal shelter volunteer. Bonnett, who has a master of business administration degree from Northwest Missouri State University, plans to operate the facility with several of her family members. She is completing her certification as a pet-care technician as well as training in pet first aid and CPR, and is a member of the American Boarding Kennels Association.

The 1,750-square-foot building and its 14,000-square-foot fenced yard offered an ideal layout to work with, she said. The facility includes three indoor play areas in addition to the outdoor play area.

Services offered will include a drop-off day-care service from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., with daily rates of $20 and lower rates for multi-day plans. The daily schedule reads much like a children's day care, with indoor playtime and games, naptime and potty breaks, and includes a "paw-gress" report at the end of each day, Bonnett said. Overnight boarding and weekend day care are also available. More information and registration forms are available at www.dmdoggy.com.
