Three projects in Greater Des Moines and eight more from across the state will receive Best Development awards for 2017 from 1000 Friends of Iowa. The recipients were chosen because they “implement the efficient use of resources to develop sustainable communities that provide a high quality of life,” according to a release. In the Innovative Leadership category, the city of Clive was recognized for the Walnut Creek and Clive Greenbelt projects. Blackbird Investments has the best mixed-use development with its Wilkins Building in downtown Des Moines, while St. John the Apostle Catholic Church and Red Lion Renewables received the renewable energy award for their solar array in Norwalk. The city of Dubuque received the first Jurors’ Choice award for its 2017 Imagine Dubuque Comprehensive Plan. Additional details about each winning project can be found here.
