2025 calendar year breaks record for Great Iowa Treasure Hunt

117 wordsAll Latest News, Government Policy and LawIowa State Treasurer Roby Smith announced this week that the Great Iowa Treasure Hunt returned more than $33.6 million in unclaimed property to individuals and businesses in 2025. That is the highest annual total in the program’s history and over $2.7 million more than the previous record set in 2024. The funds were distributed through 53,226 paid claims to rightful owners or heirs who are past or current Iowa residents. In addition to the record amount returned, the program set a separate record in November for the value of properties turned over to the state program. There is currently more than $648 million worth of property waiting to be claimed, according to a news release.
