186 wordsAll Latest News, Economic Development, EnergyAlliant Energy received approval to construct a 720-megawatt energy center in Marshalltown. The natural gas-fired combustion turbine facility will be built adjacent to the company’s existing 650-megawatt Marshalltown Generating Station. The Iowa Utilities Commission unanimously approved Alliant Energy’s certificate of public convenience, use and necessity request. When operational, the Bobcat Energy Center will serve as a flexible resource, activating as needed during periods of peak demand. The facility is designed for rapid response, capable or reaching full load in less than 15 minutes. Adding natural gas generation is a key component of Alliant Energy’s Energy Blueprint, the company said in a news release. The utility anticipates construction to begin in the third quarter of 2026, with plans to be operational in 2029. “This milestone for the Bobcat Energy Center shows great momentum for the Marshalltown community in terms of economic development, from new construction jobs and tax revenue, to strengthening our capacity to attract new industrial and manufacturing opportunities,” John Hall, president and CEO of the Marshalltown Chamber of Commerce, said in a news release. “Real growth begins with reliable, consistent access to energy.”
